Travel medicine

If you're traveling abroad and are unsure of which infectious diseases are unique to the country you'll visit, which immunizations you should have before leaving and which preventive medications you should take with you, visit the Mercyhealth Travel Clinic.

After you've established your travel plans, our providers will:

  • Review your itinerary
  • Assess your individual health risks
  • Provide preventive treatment, such as immunizations
  • Prescribe preventive medication for the trip
  • Give you disease information about the country you’ll be visiting
  • Provide follow-up care upon your return

Some vaccines are given in a series over several months, so plan ahead and visit the Mercyhealth Travel Clinic well in advance of your trip. A prepared traveler is a healthy traveler. Mercyhealth travel medicine specialists know which vaccinations you’ll need depending on where you are going.

There are routine, recommended and required vaccines that can include immunization against illnesses like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis A or B, typhoid, meningitis, or measles. If you are traveling to a country that requires yellow fever vaccination, please call ahead for additional information.

Prevention is the best medicine when it comes to traveling abroad, so take the proper precautions.
