EAP resources for businesses

The Mercyhealth Employee Assistance Program (EAP) strives to provide life-enhancing programs and supportive care to employees of contracted employers throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

Cost-effective, value-based employee retention

Keeping an employee healthy and working productively costs far less than replacing that employee. Our EAP helps keep employees on the job, and more importantly, sends a message that they’re valued assets worthy of commitment and support.

EAP helps reduce turnover and costs

Staff turnover can be a costly, time consuming experience. EAP can cut turnover costs, such as:

  • Hiring costs, involving time and facilities for recruitment, interviewing, and examining a replacement
  • Training costs, involving the time of the supervisor, human resources department and trainee
  • The pay of a learner, which is often in excess of what is produced
  • Loss of production and the necessity to cover the interval between separation of the old employee and replacement by the new
  • Loss of general employee morale in the company and possible diminished reputation in the community

Healthier, happier, more productive employees

EAP can intervene in employees' problems before they interfere with work, and you can address the needs of your employees on a professional and compassionate level while saving your company money.

Why does an EAP work so well?

The reason is simple—most troubled employees would rather get help than lose their jobs. And when employees reach out for help through an EAP, the ripple effect spreads throughout the organization:

  • Healthier employees are more energetic, call in sick less often and have fewer chronic diseases. Several studies report that mental health treatment reduces the cost for treating physical illnesses by as much as 70%.
  • Healthier employees have fewer industrial accidents.
  • The performance ability of healthier employees improves, and that reduces your absenteeism and turnover rate.
  • The overall moral of the organization is improved.
  • Your company’s image is enhanced, which in turn has a positive influence on clients, customers, suppliers and the general public.
  • For every $1 an employer invests in an EAP, recovery from loss is estimated at $3 to $5.

Customized services to meet your needs

EAP is custom-designed for your workplace and may include any or all of the following options:

Employee assessment and referral

A specially trained clinician will provide assessments for your employees and their household members, as requested through confidential self-referrals and/or supervisory referrals.

The EAP professional will determine what services might best address the needs of your employees and their household members. They make the appropriate recommendations and necessary referrals if additional services are appropriate.

Management consultation

A Mercyhealth EAP professional is available to your management and supervisory staff, either formally or informally, to address their concerns about a particular employee or workplace issue. The consultation may include brief phone discussions on how to best handle difficult situations, as well as providing formal referrals to EAP services to employees.

Wellness education programs

Our EAP team members are available to present onsite seminars for your employees on topics such as stress- and change-management, personal resiliency, positive communications, improving team dynamics and other topics as requested. Seminar evaluations offer opportunities for staff feedback and continued development.

Crisis debriefing

Timely debriefing is crucial to company morale after a traumatic incident. At a time of departmentwide or companywide trauma, our our EAP team is available to counsel and assist your organization in efforts to help employees process and adapt after the critical incident.

Employee benefit program promotion

We promote Mercyhealth EAP services to your employees so they’re aware of their new employee benefit and how to use it. Promotional efforts are developed with your organization’s input and may include informational meetings, supervisory training, brochures, cards, posters and other related materials.

We have tools in place to evaluate your employees’ use of EAP, the efficacy of our services and the perception of the EAP’s value by your employees.

Timely, periodic reports summarizing utilization are provided to your organization’s assigned representative.
