Recognizing World Immunization Week

What's new at Mercyhealth | Thursday, April 28, 2022

In celebration of World Immunization Week, which takes place April 24-30, Mercyhealth is reminding the public to make sure they are up to date on their vaccinations.

The week promotes the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. It comes at a critical time as the COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted health care, including routine immunizations causing millions to miss out on the life-saving benefits of vaccines, according to the World Health Organization.

Throughout our lives, vaccines protect us against disease such as measles and pneumonia, and diarrheal illnesses like cholera and typhoid.

We encourage community members to talk to their primary care provider and check their vaccination status. If you need help finding a provider, please call (888) 39-MERCY.

Dr. Saman Razzak, a family medicine provider at Mercyhealth, will be available at 12:15 pm Friday, April 29, to discuss the importance of vaccinations and recommended adult immunizations. To schedule a media interview with Dr. Razzak, please contact media relations specialist Therese Michels at tmichels@mhemail.org or call 815.971.5421.
