Kate Blanchard, Clinical Coordinator for the Mercyhealth School of Sonography, recently traveled to Kipkaren, Kenya for an ultrasound mission trip. A small team of sonographers from across the US provided training to indigenous health care providers along with hosting free ultrasound clinics. More than 700 patients were provided services over the span of their stay.

“My ultrasound education has given me the opportunity to travel the world and serve others,” Blanchard said. “The profound outreach and impact we, as health care professionals, can make across the globe as well as at home in our communities is exciting.

“I am proud that the Mercyhealth School of Sonography supplies learners with the skills and experiences needed to become assets to their communities. Graduates of the program are equipped to care for patients and positively affect their health care journey, as well as gain skills that can open doors (often airplane doors) to a wide range of opportunities in health care.”

Applications are now being accepted for Mercyhealth’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. To learn more, visit mercyhealthsystem.org/sonography.
